Ernie Pyle was a war correspondent during world war 2 and also accompanied troops in North Africa, Italy, and the Pacific. Pyle was awarded the 1944 Pulitzer Prize. He was also known for his ability to bond with the troops and to capture the ture emotions of the war. On April 17, 1945 Ernie Pyle was shot and killed on a small island northwest of Okinawa.
